Hi, I'm Medjina Sajous-Virgo, a proud 25-year-old caseworker, brand ambassador, and multidisciplinary artist. From acting and dancing to singing, graphic design, photography, and music, I channel my creativity into various forms of expression. But there's one challenge that has defined my journey in ways I could never have imagined- a rare and life-threatening disease called Hereditary Angioedema (HAE).
For those who may not know, HAE is a genetic disorder that causes unpredictable attacks of severe swelling. This swelling can affect different areas of the body, including the arms, legs, face, intestinal tract, and even the airway. When it strikes the intestinal tract, the pain is intense, often causing nausea and vomiting. When it affects the airway, it’s not only painful—it can be life-threatening, completely obstructing breathing. Living with HAE means navigating a cycle of these attacks, which often occur every two weeks and can last for days. But I refuse to let this condition define me or keep me from pursuing my passions.
I created this clothing brand with a dual purpose: to raise awareness of HAE and to break the stigma surrounding invisible disabilities. Living with HAE, I’ve experienced discrimination and skepticism, even within healthcare settings. People often don’t believe our pain because it’s not visible, and we’re sometimes treated as if our condition isn’t real. This battle of living with HAE and challenging the lack of understanding around it—needs to change.
Through this brand, I aim to shine a light on the strength it takes to face these battles every day, as well as the resilience of those who support us. I hope to inspire a movement where we recognize that disabilities don’t always present in obvious ways, yet they are every bit as real and impactful.
Together, let’s raise our voices, increase awareness, and advocate for the respect and understanding that all people living with disabilities deserve. Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Let’s make a change that resonates far beyond our community.
